Ferguson Family History
This most interesting surname is of Old Gaelic origin, found in Ireland and Scotland, and is a patronymic form of "Fergus", from an Old Gaelic personal name "Fearghus", composed of the elements "fear", man, and "gus", vigour, force, with the patronymic ending "son". This Gaelic personal name was the name of an early Irish mythological figure, a valiant warrior, and was also the name of the grandfather of St. Columba. Ferguson is by far the most popular and widespread form of Fergus. Some Irish bearers f the name "Fergus" claim descent from Fergus, Prince of Galloway (deceased 1161). Ferguson is widespread in Ireland in Ulster, where it is of Scottish descent...Select Audience

I would love to track down some distant Ferguson cousins. My 4th Great Grandfather Daniel Ferguson (1805-1882) was born in Perth and passed away in Gartmore, Stirling. Its a long shot I know.

(Part 1 of 3) The Ferguson name can be found in Scotland, but its origin according to DNA is from the north-west coast of the Emerald Island. The Ferguson story [dominated by DNA tribal marker R1b-L513, Subgroup A1] can trace their origins to the Finn Valley in Donegal, Ireland from 50 BCE. Perhaps the journey begins with the Clanna Dedad; Deda, son of Sen or Deda Mac Sin. The Ferguson surname origin is from a Northern Ui Neill [R1b-L513] tribe. The Cenรฉl Eoghan and the tribes of Donegal conquered much of Ulster (Derry and Tyrone).

(Part 2 of 3) Cenรฉl Eoghan will expand across northern Ireland with their cousins Cenรฉl Conaill and the Northern Ui Neill between 500-800 BCE. The clans of Finn Valley have the same DNA as people from Gwynedd in Brittany. But how could this be? Recent discoveries from DNA testing are unlocking the migration patterns of Celtic tribes as late as 800 CE to 1200 CE. The Ferguson story begins in pre-history Ireland then moves to Scotland as they form part of the Dalriada. Descendants of their tribe will then travel to Brittany, France during the Dark Ages.

(Part 3 of 3) Discover their newly found untold story and how forgotten texts bring their story back to life. From the ebook, โThe Tribe Withinโ learn how DNA unfolds this amazing tale and if you look in the right places, how history narrates this evidence. There is another written account of their story, but it is camouflaged in smoke and myth โ it will become the tales of King Arthur. I have just established a new Facebook Group โ Ulster Ferguson Ancestry and DNA https://www.facebook.com/groups/1570392380374229 The aim of the group is to enable finding and contacting relatives to enhance our collective knowledge of Ferguson Ancestry, and in particular to encourage and support many more Fergusons to take Big Y-DNA, autosomal DNA, and mitochondrial DNA tests, as appropriate (see the first of my posts that will deal with the different DNA tests, their uses, and limitations). The group is open to all with the surname Ferguson or its recognised variants (Fergusson, Fergus, etc), other surnames of Ferguson ancestry, and spouses.
